Message from Coordinator FVAS:

Pleasure and honor are the deep root feeling to my soul while presenting my message as founder of Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Bhimber Campus AJ&K. Pakistan is an agricultural state and livestock is its important sub-sector that has a unique position in the national agenda of economic development. In history, livestock is accomplished by smallholders to meet their needs of milk, meat, eggs, drought, profits and food security on routine basis. In Pakistan, the employment at the rural level is created by livestock. Similarly, in poverty alleviation and socio-economic standard of rural population livestock is playing a vital role. Approximately, livestock contribution in agricultural value added and in national GDP is 55.9 % and 11.8 %, respectively. The importance of domestic animals may be realized from the fact that rural populations is generating 30-40% of their income and almost 35-40 million populations are involved in livestock industry. The gradual shift of Pakistan to agriculture and livestock-based economy has resulted in the inevitable need of new academic institutes in the country in order to cater the relevant demands. Resultantly, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was established in 2020 with the objective of attaining a substantial skillful manpower in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.  The Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has four departments i.e. Veterinary Sciences, Animal Sciences, Livestock Production and Epidemiology and Public Health. At present, one undergraduate degree programs, i.e., BS Animal Sciences in the Department of Animal Sciences and one diploma program, i.e., Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) in the Department of Veterinary Sciences are being offered by the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Bhimber Campus, MUST. The curricula and syllabi of all programs are kept continuously updated in accordance with national and international standards.
