The Department of Computer Science & Information Technology (CS&IT) was established in 2001 at Mirpur as a sub-campus of University of AJ&K, Muzaffarabad. This department has been merged into Mirpur University of Science and Technology, Mirpur (A.K). The department offers an excellent learning environment, laboratories equipped with latest computers (all connected through Local Area Network) with internet facility, most recent books and qualified faculty. The department developed the curricula of academic programs at various levels to meet the national and international standards as defined by Higher Education Commission. The Department offers BS (Computer Science), BS (Information Technology) four years’ degree programs and MCS and MS (CS) two years’ degree programs. The BSCS and BSIT degree programs are accredited by HEC, National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC).
The objective of the studies is acquiring skill and knowledge to carry out research in computer Sc. / Information Technology fields and apply the expertise in any new or existing domain of human life. The department focuses on producing computer and IT professionals who are able to explore new dimensions in the computing domain and look for fresh areas in which information technology may be applied.
The department has air-conditioned laboratories equipped with latest computers. These labs provide students with the latest software based training to improve the professional computer and IT-skills essential for modern technical environments. Students utilize these labs facilities according to a pre-determined schedule as well as during their free times in order to carry out their practical and research work. In future department plans to establish four more computer labs.
The department library contains most recent books, journals and other material that fulfills the requirements of any of the courses offered. The library material and resources are continuously updated according to new publications
Projects and Assignments
Regular assignments and presentations are the main feature of the course work. Students are required to undertake a major project in their final semester. Marks obtained in class assignments (quizzes, presentations and viva) contribute to final examination result
Seminars and Workshops
Department often arranges workshops and seminars by inviting Computer and IT-researchers and professionals to promote the research activities or to stay up-to-date with market developments.
Maintaining the tradition of sports being part of the education, the department actively supports students to take part in co-curricular activities by organizing Milads, debates, study tours and university sports-week competitions. Bodily strength is as much needed as intellectual activity in ensuring success in life. Education aims at the physical, mental fitness, therefore, the students are encouraged to participate in sporting activities. The students of this department participated / competed in different software competitions at national level.

The broad scope of computer science and information technology invites students to explore the technical world of education. On completion of degree, successful students have a wide range of options to embark on a career as system analyst, IT manager or Software developer. Graduates of the department have proved themselves as Software engineers, Web developers, System administrators and Network Administrators in different areas of expertise.
