A seminar on “Securing Research Grants Strategies” was conducted by Department of Sociology in Video Conference Hall of Network and Telecommunication Center (NTC) of Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K. This interactive session drew participation from faculty members of faculty of social sciences and humanities including postgraduate students. The purpose of this session was to identify the emerging research trends in social sciences, building consortia for collaborative research, identifying potential funding sources, writing compelling grant proposals while adhering the application process. This session also aimed to align research priorities with those of relevant funding bodies to increase the chances of securing grants. A renowned academician and developmental expert, Dr. Muhammad Ejaz Qureshi from Australia was resource person for this important session. This seminar commenced with an opening address by Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Faisal Riaz who welcomed the resource person and emphasized the increasing competitiveness of research funding and the need for strong proposals. The resource person, Dr. Muhammad Ejaz Qureshi, a renowned academician, research consultant, policy maker/advisor, and developmental expert shared valuable insights into identifying appropriate funding agencies, aligning proposals with funders’ priorities, and crafting persuasive narratives. He shed light on the emerging research trends in social sciences, while conducing research through consortia. He also shared that how to identify the potential funding sources nationally and internationally. He further shared the tips and procedures of compelling research proposal, writing compelling grant proposals, and navigating the application process.
The seminar was divided into thematic sessions, each focusing on a critical aspect of the grant-seeking process. Topics included identifying funding opportunities, understanding the structure of grant proposals, budgeting effectively, and adhering to submission guidelines. Practical tips were provided on how to highlight the significance, innovation, and expected impact of research. Interactive Q&A sessions allowed participants to clarify doubts, discuss challenges, and share experiences. Real-life examples of successful and unsuccessful proposals were analysed, offering attendees a clear perspective on what reviewers look for. In addition, the seminar highlighted the importance of collaboration, interdisciplinary approaches, and institutional support in enhancing the chances of securing grants. Participants were also encouraged to seek mentorship and attend grant-writing workshops regularly. Overall, the seminar proved to be highly informative and motivating. It provided researchers with the tools and confidence needed to pursue funding opportunities strategically and effectively. Feedback from attendees indicated a strong interest in follow-up workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions. This seminar not only enriched the knowledge of participants but also underscored the institution’s commitment to promoting a culture of research excellence. In closing remarks, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Coordinator, Department of Sociology, on behalf of Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) extended sincere gratitude to Dr. Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi for his valuable insights and sharing experiential learning with the participants.
