Directorate of Students Affairs of Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K in collaboration with Institute of Islamic Studies (IIS) organised session in which Brigadier (R) Tahir Mehmood, former Director of Publications, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), delivered a lecture on the Society, State & Nationhood in the 21st Century in the Mechanical Hall of the City Campus. Prof. Dr. Anwar Khitab, Dean, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FH&MS) accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Altaf, Director, Students Affairs, Dr. Asghar Ali Khan, Director, Institute of Islamic Studies, Faculty Members & University Students warmly received the honourable Guest Speaker.
Brigadier Tahir Mehmood commenced his lecture by quoting lines from Francis Bacon’s 1625 work, highlighting the importance of thoughtful reading, “Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider”. The lecture primarily focused on the evolution of the Modern State, Shifting Geopolitical Scenario; Rising influence of Multiple Global Powers & the challenges it poses. He further discussed the emerging Indian disinformation campaigns, propaganda & false narratives directed to undermine Pakistan through deceptive media outlets and contributing to identity theft. The Speaker similarly highlighted the ongoing technological & informational revolution and its significant influence on worldwide trends & developments. Brigadier Tahir Mehmood also shed light on relationship between Society, State & Nationhood particularly in the context of Pakistan. He highlighted the shared history of the Subcontinent & key principles that formed the foundation of Pakistan’s identity before and after its creation. He emphasised the significant impact of British colonial rule on the region’s Socio-Political dynamics, which played a crucial role in formation of Pakistan. He further talked about struggles & sacrifices made by the people of the Subcontinent in their fight for independence and how those experiences shaped Pakistan’s unique National Identity.
The speaker also focused on the vision of Pakistan’s founding leaders, especially in terms of religious & cultural identity and how their vision played key role in shaping the Nation’s collective self-awareness & identity. Speaker mentioned that Pakistan still faces socio-political issues, like regional conflicts & internal divisions which impact its progress. He emphasised that by exercising our unified efforts we can elevate Pakistan to new heights & the future of the Nation belongs to us. He also encouraged the audience to stay committed to the values of unity and progress as these will guide Pakistan toward a prosperous and bright future. At the culmination of the session prayers were offered for peace, prosperity and progress of Pakistan with special focus on the well-being of its people & continued growth towards unity & development.
