September 2, 2025Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences of MUST, Mirpur hosted 1st Regional Consultative Workshop on Food Systems & Nutrition Policy

The Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FHMS), Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) & Pakistan Korea Nutrition Center (PKNC), successfully convened the 1st Regional Consultative Workshop on Food Systems and Nutrition at MUST, Mirpur AJK. The workshop was held under the theme: Policy Dialogue for Formulation of National Nutrition Research Agenda & Systems Transformation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.The event commenced with welcome remarks by Prof. Dr. Anwar Khatab, Dean, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, MUST, followed by insightful technical presentations from esteemed experts, including Dr. Mian Zeeshan Javaid, Associate Professor, FHMS, MUST; Dr. Allah Rakha, Associate Professor, NIFSAT, University of Agriculture Faisalabad & Chair, PKNC; and Mr. Mustafa Talpur, Director, PIDC. The workshop concluded with closing remarks delivered by Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Poonch, Rawalakot. Bringing together distinguished representatives from academia, food industries, international and national NGOs, agriculture, and pharmaceutical sectors, the workshop served as a collaborative platform to deliberate on shaping a National Nutrition Research Agenda and advancing food systems transformation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

This initiative marks an important milestone towards strengthening nutrition research, policy dialogue, and food security in AJK.
