The HEC-funded 150 kW Solar Power System installed at Jarikas Campus of MUST, Mirpur AJ&K, stands as a landmark initiative promoting sustainable energy, environmental responsibility & a greener future through Modern technology
The 150 kW Solar Power System installed at Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Jarikas Campus, marks a significant step towards achieving the university’s vision of sustainable energy and a greener campus environment. This project, funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, reflects MUST’s commitment to adopting renewable energy technologies to reduce dependency on conventional energy sources and lower its carbon footprint.
The system was successfully commissioned at the end of March 2025. Since its commissioning, it has generated 123,665 kWh of clean electrical energy. To date, this renewable energy generation has resulted in an estimated reduction of 123,300 kilograms of CO₂ emissions, contributing directly to environmental preservation. Furthermore, the energy produced is equivalent to saving approximately 49,468 kilograms of coal, underlining the project’s substantial impact on conserving natural resources. In financial terms, the energy generated in 6 months corresponds to an approximate value of PKR 4,946,600, which sets the pay back period at less than 3 years, demonstrating the environmental as well as economic benefits of transitioning to solar power. The supervision of this project were carried out by a dedicated team comprising experts from the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Directorate of Planning and Development, Estate Management, and other administrative offices. Their collaborative efforts ensured the project’s timely completion and optimal performance. This initiative stands as a model of sustainable development within the higher education sector and reaffirms MUST’s leadership in promoting renewable energy and environmental stewardship.
