March 14, 2025Mirpur University hosts Comprehensive Media Literacy Training

A comprehensive media literacy training was conducted at the NTC Video Conference Room, bringing together Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students from various departments. This timely initiative aimed to equip participants with the skills to navigate the complex media landscape effectively. The training comprised six modules, each delivered by a renowned experts in the field. Prof. Dr. Khuram Pervez Amber, Director QEC, kicked off the session with an insightful discussion on understanding media and its role. Prof. Dr. Faisal Riaz, Director ORIC, followed with a crucial module on identifying fake news. Subsequent modules covered fact-checking and online verification Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed Bhatt, Director NTC; media literacy integration into the curriculum by Dr. Bilal Bhatti from the Department of Mass and Media Communication; and a keynote address by Mr. Shakeel Ahmed, ex-Director Radio Pakistan, Azad Kashmir who emphasized the importance of ethical considerations in media and responsible social media usage.
The training provided participants with valuable platforms and tools to identify and verify fake news, ensuring they are better equipped to navigate the digital world. The session concluded with a shield presentation to the keynote speaker, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed, by Professor Dr. Faisal Riaz, Director ORIC. This media literacy training marks a significant step towards promoting critical thinking, digital literacy, and responsible media consumption among the academic community.
