February 27, 2025Mirpur University Joins National Initiative for Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Development

Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mirpur AJ&K has joined the Project Team leading the development of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) for Pakistan. Under the Quality Assurance and Standard Setting thematic area of PAK UK Education Gateway project, both British Council and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan agreed to work on the Development of Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) for Pakistan. The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) aims to assess excellence in teaching at universities and colleges, and how each higher education provider ensures excellent outcomes for their students in terms of graduate-level employment or for further study.
The project is being executed by a consortium of prestigious UK universities, including King’s College London, the University of Warwick, the University of Birmingham, Imperial College London, Aston University Birmingham, the University of Sunderland, the University of Glasgow, and the Office for Students. The consortium features ten leading Pakistani universities, spearheaded by the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and Mirpur University as one of the key partners. The consortium secured a total funding of £60,000 to complete this project.
The TEF, originally a UK-based framework, assesses and rates universities and colleges to enhance teaching quality, learning experiences, and student outcomes. Through this project, HEC aims to adapt and implement a similar framework in Pakistan to uplift higher education standards across the country.
MUST has been inducted into the consortium, with Dr. Zafar Ali Khan, Head of the Department of Computer Systems Engineering, representing the university under the leadership of Brig (R) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus Javed SI (M), Vice Chancellor MUST. Dr. Zafar Ali Khan recently participated in the project’s official kick-off meeting, marking a significant step in MUST’s contribution to the advancement of teaching excellence in Pakistan.
