March 21, 2025MUST Delegation Participates in HEC Consultative Meeting on Integration of Quranic Knowledge in Higher Education

A delegation from Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mirpur AJ&K led by Brig (R) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus Javed SI (M), Vice Chancellor MUST along with Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Asghar Ali khan, Director Institute of Islamic Studies including faculty members, Dr. Sajjad Ahmed, Mr. Waqar Ahmed, Ghulam Mustafa and Dr. Zakir Bukhari, Chief Librarian actively participated in the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) virtual consultative meeting on the integration of Quranic knowledge in higher education institutions across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The meeting was held in the Virtual Classroom of MUST, located in the Library Building at the university’s main campus. Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed Bhat, Director Network and Telecommunication Center, Major (R) Jahangir Ahmed, Chief Security Officer, and Mr. Zafar Hussain, Security Officer were also present at the meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman Higher Education Commission of Pakistan focused on developing a structured roadmap to incorporate the teaching of the Holy Quran in universities, ensuring that students gain profound knowledge and wisdom from the divine book. Discussions revolved around enhancing the curriculum to include Quranic teachings in a manner that complements contemporary education while addressing societal and ethical challenges. During the meeting the Vice Chancellor of MUST put forth a significant suggestion, proposing that the teaching of the Holy Quran be made a compulsory credit-hour course in all higher education institutions. This proposal was well received by the Chairman HEC, who acknowledged its importance in fostering a deeper understanding of Quranic knowledge among university students.
To ensure the smooth execution of this initiative, HEC announced that a second session will be conducted on the 27th of Ramadan. This upcoming session will include Vice Chancellors from all Pakistani universities, along with representatives from the departments of Islamic Studies and Arabic, to finalize the strategic implementation of Quranic education in higher education institutions. The participation of MUST’s delegation in this consultative process highlights the university’s commitment to promoting Quranic education and its integration into academic frameworks, aligning with HEC’s vision for a well-rounded and ethically sound higher education system in Pakistan and AJK.
