August 2, 2024MUST, Mirpur AJ&K hosts Seminar on The Role of Qur’anic Sciences in the Educational Environment of Contemporary Universities
The Institute of Islamic Studies (IIS) of Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K organised One-Day Seminar titled “The Role of Qur’anic Sciences in the Educational Environment of Contemporary Universities in the Mechanical Hall of the City Campus of Mirpur University on 30 July 2024. Dr. Sohaib Zafar, Director of the Tarbia Centre Riphah International University, Islamabad and Mr. Mehmood Ahmed, Chairman Character Education Foundation (CEF), Islamabad had special participation in the Seminar. The program commenced with a solemn and spiritually uplifting recitation of the Holy Quran by a scholar from the Institute of Islamic Studies (IIS). This was followed by a heartfelt rendition of Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool by a BS student setting a reverent tone for the event. Dr. Asghar Ali Khan, Director of IIS welcomed the esteemed guests and participants, expressing gratitude for their presence and highlighting the importance of the seminar.
Dr. Sajjad Ahmed, Former Director of IIS, opened the seminar with an insightful speech on the Quran Curriculum at MUST. He emphasized the importance of integrating Quranic studies into the undergraduate curriculum, underscoring how it enriches students’ academic and moral development. Dr. Sohaib Zafar, Director of the Tarbia Centre at Riphah International University, Islamabad, who earned his Ph.D. in Sweden and is renowned for his expertise in Quranic curriculum implementation, delivered a compelling talk on “Inter-Disciplinary Learning: Qur’anic Studies in Modern Educational Frameworks.” His insights into the practical execution of Quranic teachings within university settings were highly enlightening.The chief guest, Mehmood Ahmed, Chairman of the Character Education Foundation (CEF), Islamabad, delivered an excellent presentation on “Curriculum Reforms: Incorporating Quranic Teachings into 21st Century Education.” Drawing from his extensive experience and achievements with the Character Education Foundation (CEF) he highlighted the transformative potential of Quranic education in shaping future generations.
In his address Brig (R) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus Javed SI(M), Vice Chancellor of Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K lauded the efforts Institute of Islamic Studies (IIS) and Character Education Foundation (CEF), Islamabad to integrate Quranic teachings into modern education and acknowledged the collective contributions of the speakers and organizers. He also praised the efforts of Dr. Asghar Ali Khan, Director of IIS, and the chief organizer, Ghulam Mustafa, for their dedication and hard work in making the seminar a success.
