The students of the Department of Mass Communication, Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), visited the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mirpur, as part of their course on Conflict and Crisis Reporting. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the role of the district administration during crises, disasters, and emergencies. Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz welcomed the students and delivered an insightful briefing on the responsibilities of the district administration in managing various types of crises, including natural disasters, law and order situations, and public health emergencies. He highlighted the importance of coordination among different departments, the role of media during emergencies, and how misinformation can be a major challenge during such events.

Speaking to the students, DC Yasir Riaz encouraged aspiring journalists to report responsibly during crisis situations, emphasizing the need for factual reporting, ethical practices, and effective communication with officials. The visit was organized under the supervision of Mr. Muhammad Kashif Najeeb, Coordinator, Department of Mass Communication, MUST. He thanked the Deputy Commissioner for his valuable time and appreciated the administration’s support in providing real-world learning opportunities for students. Around 30 students attended the session, which concluded with an interactive Q&A segment. The students expressed keen interest in the subject and acknowledged the visit as an enriching academic experience.
