The Directorate of Sustainability at Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) is an embodiment of our university’s guiding spirit — “Wisdom and Virtue.” Grounded in the university’s vision of having a transformative impact on society and acting as a knowledge corridor between Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan, and the rest of the world, the directorate strives to ensure that sustainability becomes both a moral duty and an operational reality at MUST.

Our initiatives are closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), promoting harmony between education, innovation, and environmental preservation. Through this Directorate, we aim to nurture a generation of thinkers, researchers, and innovators who understand that true progress is inseparable from environmental responsibility.

The directorate is committed to establishing an eco-conscious, resource-efficient, and inclusive campus that reflects the university’s mission of continuous innovation and leadership development. By integrating sustainability into academic and administrative frameworks, we not only protect the planet but also honor our commitment to serve humanity with wisdom and virtue.

ABOUT US

The Directorate of Sustainability serves as the principal coordinating body responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring sustainability initiatives across all academic and administrative domains of MUST. It aligns institutional policies and practices with global sustainability standards, ensuring that the university’s growth remains environmentally conscious and socially responsible.

In keeping with MUST’s mission of innovation, creativity, and technological advancement, the Directorate seeks to apply modern solutions to traditional environmental challenges. The Directorate operates under six major focus areas:

  1. Sustainable Infrastructure and Campus Setting
  2. Energy Efficiency and Climate Action
  3. Water Conservation and Management
  4. Waste Minimization and Recycling
  5. Sustainable Transportation and Mobility
  6. Environmental Education, Research, and Community Engagement

WHO WE ARE

Functioning as a multidisciplinary and collaborative hub, we integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into teaching, research, and university operations.

Working alongside faculties, administrative departments, and student organizations, directorate fosters a culture where sustainability becomes part of everyday learning, decision-making, and problem-solving. The Directorate encourages all members of the university community to act as responsible stewards of the environment and agents of sustainable change.

The Directorate envisions MUST as a living example of an environmentally conscious institution — a place where scientific inquiry, technological innovation, and social progress coexist in harmony with nature.
