About the Program
The Department of English at Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) proudly hosts the English Access Scholarship Program, a prestigious U.S. Embassy-sponsored initiative supervised by the Regional English Language Office (RELO) Pakistan. The program aims to provide bright yet economically disadvantaged students, aged 13–20, with enhanced English language proficiency, intercultural awareness, and leadership development.
Launched with a grant of USD 105,011.05 from the U.S. Department of State, the program officially commenced in April 2024, followed by the start of regular after-school English language classes in June 2024. The opening ceremony, held in September 2024, formally celebrated the program’s vision and its alignment with U.S. values of educational diplomacy and cultural exchange.
Under this initiative, 150 students from underserved backgrounds are receiving 380 hours of instruction, including 280 hours of weekly after-school sessions, 60 hours of enhancement activities, and two intensive sessions comprising 40 hours. The curriculum combines English language training with engaging content on U.S. culture, civic values, and personal development. Students participate in enrichment activities such as thematic workshops, debates, creative arts, and community engagement exercises that emphasize tolerance, diversity, and global citizenship.
Throughout its implementation, the program has upheld strict ethical, financial, and safeguarding standards as outlined by the U.S. Department of State. Quarterly reports, periodic evaluations, and financial compliance are ensured through close coordination with RELO Pakistan and FHI 360. The program reflects MUST’s commitment to fostering inclusive education and international collaboration.
The current cycle of the Access Program at MUST is scheduled to conclude at the end of November 2025. As it nears completion, the program has not only enhanced the English language proficiency of participants but has also empowered them with confidence, cross-cultural competencies, and a clearer vision for academic and civic success.
