October 30, 2025Department of Sociology of MUST, Mirpur AJ&K holds Seminar on Kashmir Black Day highlighting the historical struggle of the People of Jammu and Kashmir

The Department of Sociology, Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), organized a seminar on Kashmir Black Day at the Mechanical Hall of the City Campus of the University. The event aimed to shed light on the historical and political significance of the day and to reaffirm solidarity with the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir. The session commenced under the supervision of Dr. Nisar Gorsi, who warmly welcomed faculty members, students, and distinguished guests. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Saleha Sohail (BS 5th Semester, Sociology), followed by a heartfelt Naat-e-Rasool (SAW) by Maryam (BS 5th Semester). The National Anthems of Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir were then played, evoking feelings of unity and patriotism.
Students Moiz ur Rehman, Rida Fatima, and Ansa Saleem delivered thought-provoking speeches emphasizing the relevance of Kashmir Black Day in the context of continued human rights violations. Dr. Farooq Abdullah presented an insightful talk on the historical roots and evolving dimensions of the Kashmir conflict. Dr. Razia Rizvi and Dr. Saira Shah from the Department of Education also reflected on the importance of sustained awareness and advocacy for Kashmiri rights. The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Khurram Pervaiz, Director QEC, who appreciated the Department of Sociology for organizing an impactful and meaningful event that fostered awareness, dialogue, and solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
