Brigadier Younus Javed inaugurated Mango Orchard at JariKas Campus of MUST, Mirpur AJ&K under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program through HEC-funded Green Youth Movement (GYM); the initiative represents a bold step towards ecological conservation, hands-on climate-smart learning & advancement of sustainable development, cultivating a verdant environment across the Campus to embody the Government’s vision of empowering Youth as proactive leaders driving climate-positive change and as trailblazers of Green innovation, reinforcing truly visionary & far-sighted Commitment to Environmental Custodianship
Brig (R) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus Javed SI (M), Vice Chancellor Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K inaugurated Mango Orchard at JariKas Campus on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The initiative has been launched under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program through the HEC-funded Green Youth Movement (GYM). The event was organized under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Altaf, Focal Person GYM in collaboration with Directorate of Students Affairs, Directorate of Estates Management and the Green Society MUST (GSM). While addressing the gathering Brigadier Younus Javed stated that projects like Mango Orchard are important long-term steps for protecting the environment & supporting the national shift toward a greener future. He added that Green Youth Movement (GYM) reflects the Prime Minister’s strong commitment in engaging young people in the country’s climate initiatives. He emphasized that preparing youth to take the lead in climate action is essential as it fully aligns with the Government’s vision of building a more aware, responsible and climate-ready generation. The Vice Chancellor also commended the collective efforts of the Directorate of Estates Management, GYM Focal Person & Green Society MUST for their dedicated work behind the successful event.
Prof. Dr. Naeem Iqbal Ratyal, Registrar MUST; Prof. Dr. Rashida Hussain, Dean Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences; Mr. Kamran Hameed, Controller of Examinations; Dr. Muhammad Altaf, Focal Person GYM; Dr. Syed Zishan Ashiq, Director Planning & Development; Administrative Officers, Faculty Members, Green Society MUST & Members of GYM Club actively took part in the activity. The initiative also supports Pakistan’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 6, 7, 11, 13 & 15 which promote clean water, clean energy, sustainable communities, climate action and protection of the environment. The Mango Orchard will provide a simple and useful learning space where students can understand climate-smart agriculture, plantation methods and basic conservation practices. This project strengthens MUST’s efforts to promote sustainability and encourage students to play an active role in protecting the environment across all campuses.
